Behold, My Sister in Christ

This poem was inspired by a dear friend of mine, who taught me that God cannot heal where love is not….

Behold! My Sister in Christ!

How much am I willing to suffer so she may know the love of the Father?

Though created, she bears the image of her maker.

Anointed by the Spirit, she is an expression of God’s creative power.

United to Christ in the Eucharist, she is a perfect channel of Divine Love.

Keeper of the dawn, heart of her home, channel of divine life.

Her essence is woven into the souls of those she loves, her perpetual gift of self.

Bearer of eternal beauty, emissary of all things lovely,

Strong, courageous, uncommon; capable of difficult things.

Unique in nature, filled with substance, and gifted in Spirit; Free to be herself.

I will work endlessly… to show her service has not been lost.

I will extend my own hand to heal her… so her tears are not in vain.

I will speak Truth over her and in her absence to free her of:

The need for approval, the pressure to perform perfectly, and the imposition of impossible standards.

I will make peace with her past and share in her hope for her future to prove she is created for more.

I will forgive her all faults and count her efforts as righteousness.

I will offer to bear the burden of her cross as she carries it to her crucifixion and rejoice in her resurrection.

I will take the time to be present with her, listen to her, and fan the flame when I see the Spirit rising within her.

I will encourage her when she feels defeated, lead her when she feels lost,

and guide her into the arms of our Redeemer when she feels broken.

I will hold her hand as she scales stumbling blocks and miraculously turns them into steppingstones.

We sisters in Christ, who share the same Savior,

Who encounter His Divine Love in the remembrance of His Sacrifice,

Who trust in the Divine Union communicated in the Eucharist,

Accept the great honor of being, giving, and manifesting His Love for her.

I am my sister’s keeper.
